Dr. Steven Potwin joined WV Eye consultants in 2015 and has been a partner since 2019. He is also an associate professor at the Kentucky College of Optometry at Pikeville University. He completed his optometric education and residency at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, where he trained under some of the leading experts in the field of specialty and medical contact lenses. Dr. Potwin became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry shortly after completion of his residency.
Dr. Potwin has extensive experience in fitting contact lenses for patients with corneal diseases, corneal transplants, and ocular trauma. His expertise includes the use of gas permeable, scleral, piggyback, and hybrid specialty contact lenses. During his residency, he gained invaluable experience training under an ophthalmologist specializing in corneal disorders and uveitis, which equipped him with the skills to diagnose and treat a wide range of corneal and uveitic conditions, as well as manage post-operative care for cataract and corneal surgeries. Additionally, Dr. Potwin received training from specialists in glaucoma and retinal diseases, further broadening his clinical expertise.
At the Kentucky College of Optometry, Dr. Potwin teaches advanced contact lens courses, as well as courses on corneal disease, dystrophies, degenerations, and ectasias, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with future optometrists.
